MA-039.042002: Account Transfer HoaxOriginal Issue Date: 09 April 2002 MyCERT had received a few reports from several Internet users and organizations since last year regarding the spread of emails which contain misleading and false information.The email/s request users to reply the emails with some personal information for purpose of fraud activities. The email considered as hoax comes in various versions and subjects with similar incitement which is to request for the receipient's bank account, full name, home addresses, fax and phone numbers. Any response to the email will call for cash request from the sender instead of cash transfer to the receipient. Further verification with other agencies, shows that similar fraud activity has started since the early 1980s however were previously conducted through postal mail.
